Quick capture already files a draft report from a simulator or emulator with one key press. On real devices it works the same way once the device is linked to a teammate, or to the project as a team device. Shake the phone, or do the remote gesture on a TV, and a draft with a screenshot, the replay window, logs, breadcrumbs and network lands in the dashboard’s live capture card. You title it and file it there; the device never asks for a title.
It works on phones and tablets (iOS, Android, React Native and Flutter), on Android TV, on Apple TV and on Vega OS. A Vega OS capture has breadcrumbs and the device, app and user details, but no screenshot or replay. Web TVs (Samsung Tizen and LG webOS) and Fire TV come later. It needs quick capture switched on for the app in the dashboard.
What happens
When the capture gesture fires on a device:
| Device | Result |
|---|---|
| Linked to a teammate | A quick capture, as a private draft for that person. The device shows “Captured · {name}”. |
| Linked as a team device | A quick capture, as a shared draft in the inbox. The device shows “Captured · team device”. |
| Not linked, debug build | A quick capture, as a shared draft, the same as a simulator without a login. |
| Not linked, release build | Nothing changes for your users. On phones, shake opens the reporter as it does today, if shake to report is on. On a TV nothing happens. |
Linked devices and debug builds record replay while quick capture is on and the app’s Quick capture card has replay on (Vega OS has no replay). Your users’ devices never start recording because of quick capture.
Link a device
- In the dashboard, open the app’s project, then Project settings → Devices, and click Link a device. The dashboard listens for two minutes.
- On the device, open the app and do the capture gesture: shake the phone, or do the remote gesture on a TV.
- The device shows a banner with a two-digit matching number, for example “Linking to Everframe · 47”. The same number appears in the dashboard, next to the device’s model, OS and app version.
- Click the matching number. Nothing links until you do, so a device someone else is holding can’t link to you by accident.
The device then shows “Linked to {your name}”, and its next captures are yours. If the two minutes run out first, click Keep listening.
Every member can link devices to themselves. No change to your app is needed: no settings screen, button or deep link.
Pass a device to a teammate
A linked device can change hands, which suits shared QA devices. Its new holder opens Project settings → Devices → Link a device and does the capture gesture on it. The device still captures for its current owner, and the dashboard lists it as “47 · Pixel 9 · linked to Jonas · captured just now”.
Clicking the matching number moves the device to the new holder. The capture it just took moves too, since they were holding it. The previous owner sees “Pixel 9 moved to {name}” in their device list for a week.
Team devices
Only admins can link a team device. In the Link a device dialog, tick Link as team device before clicking the number. A team device’s captures land as shared drafts in the inbox, where anyone on the dashboard can title and file them. Project settings → Devices shows it as “Team device · {app}”.
Gestures
- Phones and tablets: shake. Shake for quick capture follows the quick capture and device linking switches only. The shake to report switch still decides whether shake opens the reporter on devices that aren’t linked.
- Android TV: hold Play/Pause for about 1.5 s by default. Remotes differ, so an admin can change it in the app’s Quick capture card, under TV gesture: a long press, a short key sequence such as ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓, or keys pressed together.
- Apple TV: hold Play/Pause on the Siri Remote for about 1.5 s by default (never Select). An iOS app’s Quick capture card shows the same TV gesture setting. The Siri Remote has Play/Pause, Select, Back and the arrows; a hardware keyboard paired with the Apple TV adds letters, digits and Shift. If the gesture uses a key the Siri Remote doesn’t have, such as a colored key, Fast-forward or Rewind, the card warns you and Apple TV uses hold Play/Pause instead.
- Vega OS: hold Play/Pause for about 1.5 s by default. A Vega OS app’s Quick capture card shows the same TV gesture setting. A Vega remote has Play/Pause, Select, Back, Menu, the arrows, Fast-forward, Rewind and the number keys. The colored keys, letters and Shift never reach a Vega OS app, so if the gesture uses one of them the card warns you and the device turns the gesture off: there is no fallback, so Vega devices can’t link or capture until you change it. A device linked earlier keeps its link.
On a linked Apple TV, the gesture’s key presses don’t reach the app, so a capture doesn’t also pause playback. A hold’s first press always reaches the app, because it can’t be told apart from a tap yet. On an Apple TV that isn’t linked, every press reaches the app as usual.
On Vega OS every press reaches the app, linked or not: the SDK only listens to keys. A capture with the default gesture therefore also toggles playback once.
To set the TV gesture from a real remote, click Record on device and pick one of your linked TVs, an Android TV, an Apple TV or a Vega OS device. Open the app on the TV, or bring it to the front, then press the keys within 10 seconds. An Apple TV records only button clicks: swipes on the Siri Remote’s touch surface never reach the app. A Vega OS device leaves out the colored keys, which it can’t tell apart. The dashboard turns them into a gesture and warns you when it may fire during normal navigation or uses a key the TV acts on itself, such as Back. Click Save gesture to use it, or Reset to default later to go back to Play/Pause.
Unlink and expiry
Project settings → Devices lists every device linked to the project’s apps: the device, the app, who it captures for, when it was last used and when it was linked. Members unlink their own devices; admins can unlink any.
An unlinked device finds out on its next capture or launch, shows “This device was unlinked” and goes back to behaving like a device that was never linked. Its capture is rejected rather than filed in the shared inbox, so a capture its holder believed was private never becomes visible to the team.
A link also ends after 30 days without use. Link the device again to carry on.
Turn it off
Device linking is on by default. To stop devices from offering to link, turn off Device linking in the app’s Quick capture card. Devices that are already linked stay linked until you unlink them under Project settings → Devices. Turning quick capture off for the app turns it off on every device, linked or not.
Privacy
- Each device gets its own token. The server stores only a hash of it; on the device it is kept in the Keychain on iOS, in Android Keystore-backed storage on Android and in the app’s AsyncStorage on Vega OS, which has no secure storage for JavaScript.
- A device token only lets the device file quick-capture drafts for the person or team it is linked to. It can’t read anything.
- Linking a device counts as consent to silent captures on it. Masking and redaction apply to every capture, as they do for manual reports.
- On your users’ devices nothing changes. The only thing they could ever see is the matching-number banner, if they do the gesture while a teammate is listening. It reads “A teammate is linking a device. If that’s not you, ignore this.”
