Your Apple TV app shows a code. A tester scans it with any phone, or your team attaches from the dashboard. The TV captures its own screen, console, network and the trail of screens that led there, and files one report.

How the companion works on tvOS

There is no reporter to drive with the remote. The TV runs the SDK in companion mode; the phone in your hand or the dashboard on your desk is the reporter, and the TV does the capturing.

The TV shows a code

Your tvOS app runs the SDK in companion mode. A corner panel shows a QR, a four-character code and the device’s name. Nothing else is drawn on the TV.

Attach from a phone, or from the dashboard

Testers scan the QR with any phone. Team members pick the device by its code in the dashboard, click Connect, and type the four-digit PIN the TV shows. Dashboard reports carry the member’s name.

On request the TV captures its own screen, console, network, breadcrumbs and replay, and streams the screenshot to the phone. Draw on it, type a line, send: the TV assembles and signs the report. Add more shots from other screens if you need them.

Reporting from Apple TV apps

Apple TV apps are among the hardest to debug from the field: a tester sees a glitch in the living room and has to describe it from memory, or film the screen with a phone. On a TV there is no keyboard and no screenshot key, so Everframe does not put a reporter on the TV at all. The Apple TV app runs the SDK in companion mode; the phone in your hand, or the dashboard on your desk, is the reporter. Wiring it up walks through starting a session, showing the pairing code, and the attach PIN.

While someone is attached

The TV shows the name of whoever is attached — a tester’s phone or a team member from the dashboard — and the app can disconnect them at any time. Reports filed from the dashboard carry that member’s name; reports from a scanned QR are anonymous unless your app tells the SDK who the user is.

The same envelope as every other screen

The same Swift SDK that powers your iPhone app targets tvOS. A tvOS report is the same envelope as one from your phone or web app, so webhooks, triage rules and the dashboard treat it the same way — screenshot, console, network, the trail of screens, device, and who filed it.

What every tvOS report carries

  • A screenshot of exactly what the TV rendered, with the reporter's annotations — masked before it leaves the device.
  • Console output, network calls and the trail of screens from the seconds before the report. Replay when it is enabled for the app.
  • App, SDK, OS and device metadata, and who filed it when attached from the dashboard.
  • One envelope, assembled on the TV — the phone never sees your SDK key.

Questions

Do testers need an Everframe account?

No. Scanning the QR on the TV opens the reporter in the phone's browser — nothing to install, no sign-in. Accounts are only for filing from the dashboard.

Can I file a report without a phone?

Yes. Open the Companion tab in the dashboard, pick the device by the code on its screen, click Connect and type the four-digit PIN the TV shows. The report carries your name.

Does the Apple TV app need a keyboard or a special remote?

No. Nothing is typed on the TV. Annotation and text happen on the phone or in the dashboard; the Siri Remote stays a remote.
